This course will focus on the essential topics, concepts and skills of the combined freshman English courses using the power standards Writing, Language, Reading Literature and Informational Texts, and Listening and Speaking.

Students will be provided with direct instruction within a small group setting. The course will include grammar mini­-lessons, classic and contemporary short stories, research that connects with the stories, self­ selected reading, SAT vocabulary units, a poetry unit, and fictional mystery genre, which includes short stories, a core novel, and informational texts connected to this genre.
