Mr. Herriott's Website
Welcome to Mr. Herriott's Website!
First off, thank you so much for your attendance and participation in the Manners Meal. I have received such positive feedback from the event and I direct so much of it back to you. I appreciate your support in making the meal a success and one that the students will remember for a long time.
We have started our first novel study with a book called "Sign of the Beaver". The book takes place in the late 18th century, as colonists are venturing in search of land for establishing a life in the new colonies. In addition to the content matter and how it relates to our own social studies curriculum, we will also be discussing numerous reading skills (main idea, theme, character development, vocabulary, context clues, conflict, figurative language, summarizing, prediction, inference, etc.) We will read the book here in the classroom and will watch the movie version next week when we finish.
Science continues to be amazing. We've been looking at chemical reactions with different solutions and powders. The students are thinking like scientists, even creating their own experiments to their own inquiries last week. We've also had a week with microscopes in the class so that they can observe some of the powders, solutions, and other really cool things, (such as butterfly wings) at high levels of magnification. It's been a great process. On one occasion I was just so pleased with what I was seeing that I recorded two minutes of my 5A scientists. I will post that to the site soon.
The book order should be arriving at any time. It's not too late to let me know if you would like for me to hold any of these books as gifts. If so, please let me know soon!
The concert is tonight for band and chorus members. Band students need to be at the HS at 6:00. It is 6:15 for the chorus members. The concert starts at 6:30. See you there!
I'll give you more information about next week's party when I have the information.
Have a terrific week. ~ Mr. Herriott
