Quiet & Question Day- we are using a whisper voice all day and then later today met with Mrs. Hunter from Lincoln Trail to ask questions

This sunshine is really awesome to have in the middle of January. It has also been such a joy to have your kiddos ALL together in the classroom. They are creating such a warm and welcoming environment for each other and a safe and respectful place to be heard. We have established “Shout It from the Mountain Top”. These are choral call backs I use in our classroom to manage the behavior and voice levels. The kiddos love it, we also use them to cheer each other on, say thank you, and other fun ways to communicate. I encourage you to ask your kiddo about these this weekend at home.
On Monday the students should still be working in the Monday packet sent home at the beginning of the Month. There will be a new one for the Month of February coming home soon to work on during those Mondays as well.
Attached to this email, on the website and coming home in your kiddos binders on Tuesday (maybe today) there are two very important notes about Valentine’s Day and our 100th day of school in second grade. Please let me know if you have further questions regarding these two really fun celebrations for our kiddos.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

WOW- What a wonderful week. I am so excited to be back in the classroom with your students. They are already becoming a great community and feed off each other in all ways. Their spacing has been great and we are really getting into the rhythm of an all day school day. I bet they have slept great these last two weeks.
Allison Moore, our student teacher started up this week in person. She was with us virtually the week before. I sent home a note to read about her and there is also one attached to this email. She will be part of my communication moving forward and will eventually do full day take over with my guidance. So far I think your students are in excellent hands.
The kiddos might be bringing home “Light up your days” These are notes they can write to each other and put into a lantern throughout the week. They are loving the good feelings of sending them to other people as well as receiving them.
We got through our Math Map testing this week and next week we will finish our Reading Map testing. Thank you for having the Chromebooks charged and ready in their backpacks every day. It has made it so much easier for us in the classroom.

Hello Parents!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I’m sorry this email did not come Friday or earlier today, these Monday’s are jam packed with meetings. Especially as we try to navigate the upcoming changes in the next few months.
We had a such a fun time on Friday celebrating the Dog Walk! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s fundraiser! I hope your kiddo told you about the dance party and popsicles! It was so nice to see the joy on all of their faces! Please Check out the blog for some pictures.
I want to apologize about the binder last week. I used the photo copier to 3 hole punch the pages and it was off lined apparently and that’s the reason it all kept falling out. (very frustrating to me too). This week the material is all orange and should be strongly held in because yours truly 3 hole punched them all. I hope the binder is still working out well. I think it is giving the kiddos a little more responsibility independently.
There is an addition to the binders this month. I put a blank calendar in there and would love to see how much your kiddo is reading at home. If you at home could just initial the day and put the number of minutes down that would be awesome. I am really encouraging the kiddos to read as much as possible when they can. I have told the students there will be rewards for reading! Thank you for taking the time to read with your kiddos as this is the most important part of your child’s day!
Hey Parents!
Another Friday is among us. What a week too! Lots of decisions were made for our districts future on Monday and then Tuesday was the first day of Fall and today we celebrated Johnny Appleseed’s birthday! It has been a busy one for sure! Thank you for all the work you are doing at home to help make everything run smoothly! I have put next week work in the binder (within the tabs) and you will see that the work due Tuesday is still there to completed for those that needed more time. The two weeks are separated by a pastel yellow piece of paper to not confuse them. I love the feedback for the binders and am so glad the system is working. As teachers we create and hope things work and then adjust when they don’t (more often than you know)- I’m so glad this one did!
Also this week you could’ve gotten some email or reminds from the library. I have added to the classroom website a page so students can access the library virtually and the lessons she is offering. These are not require at all but if students have the time or want more to look at on Monday’s then I would encourage them to go click around and see what Mrs.Hulick has made for them! It is pretty incredible the amount of time and energy the specials/encore teachers have spent trying to connect still with the students virtually, while also connecting with some of the students who are here all day in person. Their plates have been quite full and they have rocked it!
Today they started to harvest the field in our “’backyard” as I like to call it. The kiddos loved watching and it was so fun to talk about the process. We also talked about and studied Johnny Appleseed, some kiddos had never had an apple donut (good thing I splurged and went to Curtis Orchard for this treat).
I hope you all have a marvelous weekend!
We have had a marvelous week! As many of you are probably aware we took our first chapter Math test yesterday and it went really well! I am really impressed with your kiddos and their ability to retain inform and focus in the limited of time I have them. Big Shout out to you working at home to support what we are doing in the classroom!! Thank you! Also we sent home baggie books this week. I discussed with your kiddos the expectations of these and there should have been a note to help understand the process in their binder. Please have these books go back and forth every day. In addition to all that we have continued to have mask breaks outside daily. As the weather has started to change more to fall please send your child in layers or with a jacket in case it is chilly or windy. There has also been a class who brought towels to sit on outside so we don’t have to sit in the mud or wet grass when we are outside learning and taking that break. I love the idea of them being more comfortable. So I am going to be bringing a few towels in, but there is no way I can provide enough for the whole class. If you have an older beach like towel that you are willing to part from that your kiddo can leave in their cubby at school I would greatly appreciate you sharing it for them to use. On Friday we are going to celebrate Johnny Appleseed’s birthday and although we will not be able to have the feast that we normally do where they get to make and try all kinds of yummy treats, I would like to treat them for all their hard work with donuts and apple cider from Curtis Orchard. If you would rather your kiddo not have these items please let me know!
DISCLAIMER! I DID NOT GET THE PACKETS SENT HOME FOR THE P.M. CREW! I am so sorry- they were out the door and I turned around and there the stack sat. UGH! So what I have done is put their names on them and put them inside the office door. If you really want it for Monday’s at home learning you are welcome to come and get them at any point ( I’m so sorry!) If not- it is okay, I’ll just give it to them on Tuesday! I am not worried about them completing Monday’s assignments on Monday as long as the kiddos are still reading at home and practicing single digit math facts. Again I am SO sorry for the inconvenience.
I have also attached Monday’s pages to this email if you would like to take a look at them instead of going to get them.
I hope that you have a marvelous time with your kiddos this weekend! I am loving having them in class!
Let me know if you have any questions,
Miss Hood
