In this overwhelming time, where schools are scrambling to figure out how to connect with students, planning new ways to provide instruction and thinking about what we can expect from students (and parents), I have had time to dive into all the resources being put out and really take time to think about what I think is best for students at this time. In all the resources I have read through (which has helped to confirm my beliefs), there are a few points that really stand out to me:
“We need to think of this as REMOTE learning, not digital or online learning. These are very different things. REMOTE learning does not necessarily mean online.” “ We can not replicate the classrooms.” Katie Novack (UDL) in her Fireside Chat Webinar.
“Keep it SIMPLE by connecting reading and writing strategies as best you can.” Jennifer Serravallo blog post.
“Think about how we can get all students to access the key learning.” Katie Novack (UDL) in her Fireside Chat Webinar
“The reading-writing connection, which is crucial to optimal literacy development at all grade levels, can be enhanced with just paper and pencil.” Reggie Routman blog post
