We offer several vocal music ensemble opportunities at Russell Middle School, including curricular choirs (split by grade) during the school day, two extracurricular show choirs that meet after school and compete throughout the winter (Leaders of the Pack & Subwoofers), an advanced small group vocal ensemble for 8th graders (Wolfgang), and an extracurricular annual musical production every spring. Students will develop healthy tone, breathing habits, part-singing skills, and better personal awareness of their singing through their voice change. In addition to this, we place high priority on developing other musicianship skills, such as ear training and reading sheet music.
This is Mr. Firkins' seventh year at Russell Middle School. He teaches three grade-level choirs, Music Lab for 6th and 8th grade, directs the Leaders of the Pack & Subwoofers show choirs, the annual RMS musical production, and the Wolfgang a cappella group. Mr. Firkins enjoys playing video games, picking up new instruments, writing music, going out to try new restaurants, and spending time with friends, family, and his cat, Cobbler.
