This course will build upon your skills as analytic readers, thinkers, and writers. Over the summer, in order to hit the ground running in the fall, you must read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
You are expected to conduct a close reading of the novel to have a thorough understanding of the material when school begins. To assist you with your reading, you are required to complete the "Pre-Reading Questions" and "Study Guide," which are due WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14. During the first week of school, expect to be assessed on your reading in a variety of ways. Assessments may include quizzes, graded discussions, written essays, and/or presentations. Those who complete the reading with a high degree of comprehension and analysis will have a definite advantage over those who do not.

In addition, using “sticky” notes or highlighting passages of significance will be a helpful tool to you in the fall. The more you can prepare ahead of time, the easier the first few weeks of school will be. A “spark notes” level of understanding will not be sufficient for the level of depth expected on the early assessments.
