Use Red Ribbon Week - October 23-31 - as an opportunity to continue talking to your children about drugs and risky choices.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Parent engagement in schools is defined as parents and school staff working together to support and improve the learning, development, and health of children and adolescents. Parent engagement in schools is a shared responsibility in which schools and other community agencies and organizations are committed to reaching out to engage parents in meaningful ways, and parents are committed to actively supporting their children’s and adolescents’ learning and development. This relationship between schools and parents cuts across and reinforces children’s health and learning in multiple settings—at home, in school, in out-of-school programs, and in the community.

Engaging parents in their children’s school life is a promising protective factor. Research shows that parent engagement in schools is closely linked to better student behavior, higher academic achievement, and enhanced social skills. Parent engagement also makes it more likely that children and adolescents will avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as sexual risk behaviors and tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use. https://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/protective/parent_engagement.htm

KMS Veterans’ Day Program

Our annual Veterans’ Day Program will be November 9, 2018, at 9:45 a.m. This 7th grade level activity is an outstanding example of our middle school philosophy.

Teachers collaborate to present an interdisciplinary unit on the importance and value of patriotism. The students use this opportunity to thank the veterans through song, readings, music, and personally created flag pins.

Attendance Phone Number: 402-715-1470

If your student is going to be absent for the day, or any part of the day, please contact the office as soon as possible to let us know. You may also send an e-mail to kjturgeon@mpsomaha.org.

Without notification to the office, absences will be coded "Unexcused - no call from parent”. Multiple unexcused absences could lead to the involvement of the county attorney per district policy.

If you need to fax a doctor or dental note, our fax number is 402-715-1490. Please send it to "Attention Kali".

Homework requests should be directed to your child's teachers via e-mail. The Staff Directory is located under the Parent tab at the top of the website. Homework can also be found under the Homework tab, also located on top of the web page.

A quick note on drop-off and pick-up...

Thank you to all of our drivers that continue to follow our traffic guidelines each day!!

As we head into the winter months, please remember that during drop-off and pick-up it is essential that cars pull forward as far as they can. We have a large number of students and by pulling all the way forward, we can accommodate the most cars and be most efficient.

Please be patient as you enter and drive through the driveway. We have a very large number of students entering and exiting each day and we all want to keep them safe. Student safety is always our priority.
