Celebrate Black History Month by singing Lift Every Voice and Sing along with Dr. Laird!
This song was originally written as a poem by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson and then later set to music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson. It was first performed on Feb. 12, 1900 as part of a celebration of Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday by a choir of 500 schoolchildren at the segregated Stanton School, where James Weldon Johnson was principal.
This song remains a symbol of faith, brilliance, resistance, and resilience.
How will you LIFT your VOICE today?
