English Language Learners
The ELL program in Millard is a content-based English Language Development (ELD) program in which students are grouped by language ability level. The focus of the ELL program is to provide instructed English language development which will prepare young learners to use English for all their communicative purposes in school - in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students spend the majority of the school day mainstreamed in the general education classroom. They are pulled out during their scheduled ELL time, usually 30 minutes per day, where they receive relevant, meaningful support from trained ELL teachers. Students are not pulled out of the classroom during Core Reading and Math instruction. The ELL program uses district approved curriculum that is aligned with Nebraska state standards.
It's a precious thing to be communicating to children, helping them discover the gift of language and thought. ~ Richard Scarry
