Field Work

Objective

  • Students use the knowledge gained from the classroom, outdoors, and apply observations with real-life interactions with our local environment

  • Students experience an appropriate environmental science 'field work' or 'case-study' event while taking AP Environmental Science

ALL OF THESE ASSIGNMENTS FOR 'FIELD WORK' ARE AFTER SCHOOL.

Tasks

  • Pond Cleanup 09/04 at 9AM to Noon - 3 Hours (COUNTS for 1st Semester Hours if a student die NOT attended on 08/21, and 2nd Semester Hours if a student did attend on 08/21 ).

      • Unlimited amount of students, Individual

      • Requirements: None. Just be helpful with your hands. It's cleaning. You will need to arrive on time at 9AM and stay until Noon.

  • Small Waste Plastics / Trash Pickup - 1 Hour

        • Only ~3 hours total are available for this task.

        • Walk the property and pick up small pieces of trash and plastic that accumulate.

  • Cleanup the Greenhouse - 1 Hour

        • Only ~2 hours total are available for this task.

  • Figuring out how to make the Hydroponics System work - ? Hours (probably BOTH semesters worth of hours) - You are learning a skill (up to Higgins discretion)

        • This is a commitment for (3 Students Only, you will be a GROUP)

        • Learn how to make the Hydroponics System work.

      • Requirements: You will take a log over both Semesters with me on how you got the system to work. This should include the person that designed it (I will talk to Mr. G about this)

  • Bird Houses for Millard West - ? Hours (probably ONE semesters worth of hours) - You are learning a skill (up to Higgins discretion)

        • This is a commitment for (3 Students Only, you will be a GROUP)

        • Learn, Map and Identify where the current birdhouses that are in the greenhouse should be placed. Fix the birdhouses we have so that they open from the top with hinges.

Completed Tasks (no longer available)

  • Pond Cleanup 08/21 at 9AM to Noon - 3 Hours (COUNTS for 1st Semester Hours ONLY). Sorry about the early notice. We will be clearing dead wood from the pond. It's a 'all hands' situation. So if you are available... that would be easy. (Unlimited amount of students, INDIVIDUAL)
