Mr. Sam Rhew graduated from Comstock Park High School and attended Central Michigan University and Grand Valley State University. He graduated from Central Michigan and Grand Valley State University with degrees in History, Social Science, Physical Education, and Secondary Education. After teaching for Chicago Public Schools for two years, he built a career in hospitality and food distribution, developing leadership, operations, customer service, strategic planning, and team management skills.
Sam brings to MPS experience in both education and business leadership and is passionate about helping students discover their strengths, develop real-world skills, and prepare for successful careers. He looks forward to creating an engaging, supportive learning environment where students can build confidence and explore opportunities in the hospitality and tourism industry.
Outside of school, Sam enjoys spending time with his wife, Katie, a Doctor of Nursing practice who serves as the on-site healthcare provider for MCC, and their two sons, ages 7 and 5. Together, they enjoy Lake Michigan, hiking, traveling, and other outdoor adventures and they just welcomed a Labradoodle, Winston, to the family.
Fun Fact: After college, Sam spent about 15 years exploring different parts of the country, living in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona; Chicago, Illinois; and Knoxville, Tennessee, before returning to Michigan's lakeshore to put down roots. In his free time, he enjoys kiteboarding on Lake Michigan.
Sam is excited to partner with students, families, and colleagues and is proud to join the Muskegon Big Red family.
