Mr. Matt Cavender
Special Education MOCI Teacher - MHS
Hi! I'm Mr. Matt Cavender. I graduated from Forest Hills Central in Grand Rapids and went to Michigan Technological University to earn my BA Communication, Culture, and Media. I am currently at Grand Valley State University for my Special Education - Learning Disabilities Certification.
I have been in education for about 2 years as a substitute teacher. Prior to education, I had a job in healthcare marketing. I'm looking forward to working for a school that has such a rich culture and ties to the community. Muskegon is a community on the rise and it's an honor to be joining at this moment in history.
My wife is Abigail and she's a Spanish teacher at Jenison. We have 2 cats, a calico named Darcy and a 3-legged black cat named Mattea. During college, I ran the hockey student section at Michigan Tech. I still stay extremely active in that community, serving as a part-time journalist for Tech Hockey Guide, an independent news source covering Michigan Tech hockey. I love watching all kinds of sports, playing video games, playing guitar, and reading.
Little known, fun fact about me: I once caused a lengthy delay at an NCAA tournament hockey game, due to the fact that I dislodged a pane of glass trying to dive for a puck.
