Exploring Stories Through Guided Play
Fall & Winter - Guided Play Scenarios
Big Question: How might we experience performing and playing similarly? Differently?
Kindergarten started the year in drama, taking part in a series of guided imaginative play scenarios inspired by familiar settings like a doctor’s office, a market, and a restaurant. Together, they self-selected into roles found in these locations and played out imagined scenarios using simple props and costumes. Throughout, they explored character, learned to use physical space to tell a story, and worked together as an ensemble towards shared goals. At the end of the semester, they staged simple teacher-narrated scenes from select children’s books (ex. Thank You, Omu!). In their stagings, they practiced entering, exiting, and sharing themselves with the audience.
