"A LIFE WITH VOICE"

Singing, a human gift, does not exclude anyone.

Live your life with a strong vocal art influence.

Sing your heart out and speak your truth to become your best you!

Greetings Everyone and Welcome! I am excited to be in my 24th year of teaching vocal music. I returned to Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) two years ago and this is my first year as a FIREBIRD at Folwell Performing Arts Magnet. I am looking forward to continuing the fantastic work at Folwell with our middle level choral, general music and rock band programs that have really taken off! In addition to these course offerings I will teach beginning guitar, and work with the MN Opera Company in our Music Out Loud after school program.

I was born and raised here in the Midwest and love living in calling Minnesota my home. Growing up in Iowa I began playing piano at the age of 4. From there, began playing flute in band, joined choir in 8th grade along with voice lessons at the age of 14. Singing stole my heart the first time I heard opera. My parents, who are musicians, music educators and now my colleagues took my sister and me to hear an opera recital. The voice is something unlike any other instrument. I knew I had to sing.

I earned a Bachelor of Music in Education from the University of Minnesota. During my Golden Gopher college experience, I performed with the University of Minnesota Chamber Singers and Opera. Since then, I have performed in professional and nonprofessional choirs, plays, comedies and musicals on and off stage. I am currently a contracted professional singer in the Minnesota Chorale. It is always a joy to sing with MN Chorale and the Minnesota Orchestra at Orchestra Hall .

My teaching career began at Northeast Middle School and then to North High, MPS in the 1990's. Throughout my teaching career I have had the pleasure of teaching Pre-K through Community College in Minnesota, Iowa and Texas. I have performed professionally and Non-professionally in the states of Minnesota, Iowa, Texas and California. Middle School and High School choirs under my direction have received high honorable performance awards. Private vocal students, who have studied with me, have received music college scholarships advancing their success in singing and music teaching careers.

My Minnesota home is complete with my 11-year-old cat, King Solstice Midnight, who thinks he is the boss. When I am not practicing/performing music, I am usually out shooting photographs, spending time with friends and family and trying out new restaurants. I enjoy golf, card/board games, boating. reading and watching Syfy and crime shows.
