Peace yall! My name is Dane Sehaj McLain. I teach to learn and learn in order to teach. I was born and raised in South Side Minneapolis and have been living in Minneapolis for over 25 years. I am a visual artist, activist, song writer, beat maker, avid traveller in the world of ideas, and more importantly I am a teacher. Here to teach to learn and learn to teach.
I have been teaching for seven years now, and I not only see learning as natural as breathing but also consider building a community of curious learners as the highest form of art. My path towards teaching began when I realized most jobs involved slanging merchandise, when I thought it would be much more fulfilling to slang knowledge and build active communities.
This is my third year at North and I plan on staying here for many, many years. I know distance based learning will be a huge challenge for us but I will always be available to help with anything. Don’t hesitate to text, call, or email me.
My goal is to enhance our ability to unlock a greater awareness of self and others through academic rigor, and to inspire creative ways to respond to oppression and injustice through a problem posing curriculum. How can we create cultures of resistance to a system that seems determined to mistreat a large majority of humanity? Let's build together!
