hello and Welcome!
My name is Matt Capelle and I am one of the biology instructors here at North Community High School. This is my first year at North and I am extremely excited to begin my journey as a Polar!
Some background on who I am:
Born and raised in Central Minnesota, I have worked a variety of occupations before realizing that education is my true passion. I spent time working a variety of occupations, including audio/video producer and waiter, before I received my first taste of being in the classroom. My father is a teacher with over 30 years in the classroom and is the former boys basketball coach at Upsala High School and in 2009, I joined him on the coaching staff. After spending several years working with players and building relationships, I began to realize that teaching was something that I very much enjoyed so in 2012, I joined the Upsala Area Schools staff as a paraprofessional and reading tutor. This cemented the idea that I was meant to be in the classroom so I enrolled at St. Cloud State University to finish my undergraduate degree. It took me a lot longer to finish my degree than I had anticipated, however. In 2013, my wife, Laura, and I moved out to Southern California so she could attend optometry school. After her graduation, we moved back home to Minnesota and settled in Minneapolis, where I was able to finish and receive my Life Science Education degree last spring.
Laura and I have been married for 7 years and have two springer spaniels, Isabelle and Oliver. We recently purchased our first home in St. Louis Park and we are expecting our first child at the end of December. When I am not in the classroom, I enjoy spending my time with Laura, walking the dogs, cooking, reading, golfing, and attending Minnesota United soccer matches. I am proud to be a part of the North Polars and I am eager to get to know my students and create an environment where they can be successful!
