MEET THE TEACHER
MEET THE TEACHER
Hello! My name is Jane Blackwell. I am one of the instructors for the elementary K- 4 Vocal and General Music here at Folwell. I am originally a native of Huntsville, Alabama. My teaching career began in Alexandria, Virginia, after graduating from Alabama A & M University, located in Huntsville, Alabama.
Hello! My name is Jane Blackwell. I am one of the instructors for the elementary K- 4 Vocal and General Music here at Folwell. I am originally a native of Huntsville, Alabama. My teaching career began in Alexandria, Virginia, after graduating from Alabama A & M University, located in Huntsville, Alabama.
I have had the privilege of teaching in the Alexandria City Public Schools and working with students in grades K- 6. One of my musical career and journey's most remarkable highlights was conducting the All-City Alexandria City Public Schools Chorus in Alexandria, Virginia. I have also directed and led several middle and lower school musical productions and Choral events. Other highlights include invitations to sing the National Anthem for the Minnesota Twins, the Timberwolves, Collaboration with Sweet Honey and the Rock Organization, had student Participants perform with the National group of Up With People presentation at the Eden Praire High School, and Vocal Essence. I have had the experience to be a part of the Learning Through Music at the Ramsey International Fine Arts Center (Boston Music Consortium/ New England Conservatory) for Integrating the Arts in academic learning. I hold a Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning from St. Mary's University in Minnesota. I have taught as a Professor Adjunct at the Twins Cities St. Mary's University. I am honored to serve as a mentor for students from the following local universities and colleges in the metropolitan area: University of Minnesota, Hamline University, Waldorf College, Northwestern Bible College, St. Olaf, and Metropolitan State University. In 2018 I was recognized and honored as a Teacher Candidate of The Year. I am presently working on my Doctorate in Leadership With an Emphasis on Effective Schools at Grand Canyon University.
