Seward
About Band
Seward offers instruction on band instruments to students in grades 4 - 8. Students in grades 5-8 need to complete the registration form below and submit by Sept. 11th.
4th graders
4th grade students interested in band will start by learning how to play the soprano recorder. A recorder is made of plastic and is relatively inexpensive. Typically I would have students tryout a few band instruments to get you "fitted" for the right instrument. Because everyones body size, shape of the lips, are different. Once we get back to in-person learning, and it's safe, I can have small numbers of students tryout band instruments.
Instruments
We have a limited supply of band instruments available for a small fee, see registration form. I will coordinate with classroom teachers on how to hand out instruments. Older students are encouraged to provide their own, if possible.
Class Schedule
You will be notified through Google Classroom when your lesson meet time will be. If there is a conflict or other problems with attending your lesson please let me know so we can adapt, make changes to your lesson.
Method Book
See below to see which book your student should get. This book can be ordered online through Amazon, Groth or Schmitt Music stores for approximately $10. I If you can't afford a book one will be provided for you . Contact me.
Distance Learning and Band
Distant Learning gives me more flexibility with the band lesson schedule. For example, I will be able to have Google Meets with 5th grade flute players from all 3 schools at the same time!
When return to in-school-learning, I will be teaching on Mondays and Tuesdays. It is unknown at this point what a performance will look like.
