“Our goal should be to live life in radical amazement...get up in the morning and look at the world in a way that takes nothing for granted. Everything is phenomenal.”
~ Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
A little bit about me
Hello 1st Grade Families!
My name is Betsy May and this is my 22nd year at Burroughs! I started out in the Spanish bilingual program we had for the first 10 years and moved to First Grade after that. I grew up in Grinnell, IA. My undergrad was at U of Iowa and graduate work at UW-Madison and Hamline. I have taught in K-3 in four different states.
My husband and I have two daughters. The oldest lives in Sacramento, CA and the younger one is in Seattle, WA. "West coast best coast" they keep telling me! My husband, Julio, is from Guatemala, so I spend much of my summers there, where we run a Spanish language school. I enjoy swimming, yoga, biking and walking the lakes, reading and traveling.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year in 1st grade!
