This is a fully-online course. All course activities and resources can be found through our course website on Canvas (through Lobo Apps). At designated times throughout the semester, we will participate in a blend of self-paced and group-paced activities using Canvas such as discussion forums, email, journaling, and project sharing. All of the learning activities will be completed in your own time so long as they are completed by the dates and times shown in the course schedule.
There is an attendance policy that is enforced in the first 3 days of class through an introduction / welcome discussion post. Your first post must be made by the 3rd day of the class at midnight, that is how attendance is taken, you run the risk of being dropped in one of my online courses if you miss that assignment for attendance. This is detailed in the syllabus, welcome module, and through a course announcement partnered with a follow-up final reminder announcement on the 3rd day. Online courses require the same level of engagement as if we were showing up to class in-person, we just have to show up online on our own time within the bounds of the assignment due dates. I want you in my class! You have to decide if you want to be in the class :).
I do my best to make sure the syllabus is up to date and ready for you at the start of the semester. Sometimes things happen (weather, pandemic, power outages, etc.). It is possible that the syllabus may need to change, due dates may need adjusted throughout the semester. I will always make a course announcement through canvas to notify you if a change is made, make the change on this syllabus and offer to answer any questions you may have.
To reach our Canvas class website click Lobo Apps from the main MPC Website (www.mpc.edu). You will need access to the Internet and a supported Web browser. For 24/7 technical support click the Help link in the left column in Canvas.

The analysis reports were fun and helpful! I felt like I learned a lot from doing them. They were intimidating at first, but I enjoyed the process.
Read finance/investing publications or listen to investing videos to synthesize the information.
For me the best aspect of this class was the stock report analysis and the mutual fund analysis. These two projects gave me real world experience in the application of what we learned in the class. They also provided me with documents that I now have, and I can use in the future to analyze other stocks or mutual funds. It was fun learning how to research online to find the information for these reports. Make sure you take the time to really work on these projects and get everything you can out of them.
Stay consistent at the beginning and do not stop, it picks up speed each week.
I used the audiobook feature to listen to the chapter.
Get ahead by planning out the week, especially if you are taking other courses for the semester. Take notes and write things down that are new to you and you may have questions about. If you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed it's okay to take a pause and take a breath, consider going outside for a couple of minutes.
Stick it out and stay engaged. The homework assignments helped solidify my understanding of the reading material. They also gave me a chance to see how I could apply it to my investment practice. I also liked understanding derivatives- and know they will never be part of my investment plan. The very best part was the information about different websites and what to use them for.
We are so excited you're here @
