Week 8 Cooper
Players and Parents,
This week our program went 2 for 3, with JV and 9th grade picking up big wins against St. Louis Park and Brooklyn Center, and the Varsity falling just short to St. Louis Park in overtime. This week final week of the regular season is bitter sweet. The tremendous growth our program has made in the last three months is hard to believe. No matter the outcomes the week, all teams will end with their best records in the last 5 season, but more importantly the mentality of Irondale Football has taken hold. A focus on the Process Over Product, doing things with Top Notch Effort, Attitude, and Character, has paired with our Way of the Knight Mantra (Reliable, Smart, Heart, Toughness) has us performing well on and off the field. It is an exciting time to be a part of the program.
Last week the varsity fell short in overtime. The loss definitely stung, but not just for the fact that we lost, but that we did not perform to the best of our ability, or to what we have set for a standard for ourselves. This week we will use a quote from Tiger Woods to guide our efforts.
“It’s okay to fail. Failing does not shape your personality; it's how you react upon your failure. Do you dust yourself off and mope, or do you dust yourself off and come back stronger the next time?” - Tiger Woods-
Last time we lost we proceeded to win five straight games. I fully expect our seniors to lead us back to right path.
Speaking of Seniors, this Wednesday is Senior/ Parent Night. A night we use as an opportunity to recognize the efforts of our seniors players the last four years, and the effort of the parents who have supported them. Senior Parents please plan on meeting on the track at 6:25pm that night, we will have a short ceremony from 6:30-6:40 on the field.
Wednesday is also our Tackle Cancer Game. The Huddle Club lead an awesome fundraising event this summer, so we have already raised over $1,000 dollars for the Randy Shaver Tackle Cancer Fund, we are hoping to make even more that night.
With MEA Break Coming Thursday and Friday, please review the schedule carefully. We need all Varsity and JV players Thursday and Friday from 9:30am-11:30am to prepare for the Play-Offs game tha projects to be home Tuesday October 23rd. All 9th Graders are invited to continue practicing, and possible suit up for playoffs if they attend all practices.
