Starting with a topic that is way too broad to research for a short paper, for example "education." You can use these four categories on the right to narrow your topic down.

Focus your search and connect each keyword so you can find exactly what you are looking in the database
When combining operators such as AND and OR, make sure to put parenthesis around the "ORed" terms so the database knows to put them together.
ex. (education OR school) AND funding
Some databases automatically assume a space between words implies the AND operator, so when searching a phrase as a keyword, put quotes around it so the database searches it as a phrase instead of each word individually. This is true for Google searches as well.
