History/Social Studies Classes
History is a guide to navigation in perilous times.
–David McCullough, Historian
The mission of the Jockey Hollow Middle School History/Social Studies Department is for students to read, speak, write, and think as historians. This involves the use of historical thinking skills, the critical examination of both primary and secondary sources, debate, seminar discussion, document-based argumentative writing, and the presentation of their work.
Ian Lowell began teaching at Masuk High School in 2000 and now serves as Secondary Instructional Leader for History/Social Studies. He loves the Red Sox, Patriots, exploring our National Parks, and historic sites. Mr. Lowell wants to help students share his enthusiasm for history and to think critically about our past, present, and future.

His wife, Jacqueline, is currently an 8th Grade Language Arts teacher at Jockey Hollow. “Mr. D”, as his students call him, teaches 8th Grade U.S. History. Mr. DelVecchio coached the 8th Grade Baseball team from 2003 to 2017, going 14-0 in his last season before retiring to coach his oldest son’s T-ball team.
