What does the research involve?
Researchers in the Faculty of Education at Monash University are beginning a new research project looking at the role that informal sports participation plays in local communities. We are currently conducting a survey collecting data from sports participants, this could be informal or formal opportunities (such as club sport) or both. We are defining informal sport as groups who come together to participate in physical activity that are not affiliated to traditional sporting bodies such as a State Sporting Association or a structured, constituted sporting club and do not pay membership fees. The survey is seeking to identify how participation in sport contributes to mental, physical and social health benefits. The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete online, simply click on the link provided and you will proceed through to a consent form and questions.
Why were you chosen for this research?
You are being invited to participate in this research as someone who participates in sport.
Source of funding
The research has been funded by an Australian Research Council Linkage Grant in Partnership with VicHealth, Centre for Multicultural Youth, Cricket Victoria and Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, WA

We recognise that there may be some time commitment required from you to participate in the research. We do not foresee any risks with involvement.
Confidentiality
The survey is anonymous, data will be collected and aggregated for analysis. Data will be collected via the Qualtrics survey platform which is a secure platform. Only the research team will have access to the data provided.
Storage of data
All analysed data will be stored in a password protected folder on the Monash University Shared Directory. Only the research team will have access to this folder. All data will be destroyed 5 years after project completion.
Results
The findings from the research will be made available in a summary report that will be available on the websites of our partners and can also be accessed by contacting Ruth Jeanes ruth.jeanes@monash.edu
