Application deadline: 21 March 2024
Program Overview:
A 14-days trip to the Philippines with three major destinations – Sagada, Baguio City, and Manila.
Sagada is a small eco-tourist town nestled in the mountains of northern Philippines. Here, student-travellers will explore some of the lifeways of the indigenous Kankanai peoples as well as learn about the impact on tourism on their town.
Baguio City is known as “The Summer Capital of the Philippines”. It was created as a recuperative hill station by the American administration in the early 20th century. More recently, it was declared a UNESCO Creative City. Here, student-travellers will learn of the work of local research institutions and NGOs in sustaining Cordilleran knowledge, arts and culture.
Manila is the bustling capital city of the Philippines. Here, student-travellers will visit Binondo, reputedly the oldest Chinatown in the world, and learn about the history of Chinese-Filipinos.
As the study trip is limited to a maximum of 18 student-travellers, there will be a competitive selection process.
The study trip begins and ends in Kuala Lumpur. There will not be any opportunity to extend your stay in the Philippines.
