COVID-19 Vaccination Exercise for Students

Information for the Serangoon Secondary community

What is the COVID-19 Vaccination Exercise for Students?

As part of the national vaccination exercise, the Ministry of Health (MOH) is working with the Ministry of Education (MOE) to students in schools and Institutes of Higher Learning, with the following considerations:

  • The vaccine is safe for individuals aged 12 and above. On 18 May, Singapore's Health Sciences Authority (HSA) approved the Pfizer vaccine for this age group, following USA's FDA and CDC approval on 10 May. Parents should consult their doctors if they are unsure whether their child is eligible.

  • The risk of community spread remains, and comprehensive COVID-19 vaccination can significantly reduce the chances of COVID-19 infection for students and help to reduce the severity of the disease.

  • All medically-eligible students are encouraged to be vaccinated when the vaccine is made available to them. Upon receiving the SMS invitation, parents should quickly book a vaccination slot in order to secure appointments on preferred dates before the slots are open to other groups.

What do I need to do?

A unique SMS for each child will be sent to the parent/guardian listed as the primary person to contact in MOE's system. Parents will be able to give consent, submit the medical declaration, and book their child's vaccination appointments at their convenience.

As the booking of slots at any of the community vaccination centres is on a first-come-first-served basis, it is best to use the SMS invite link as soon as possible (within the same or next day of receiving the sms) to get more choices.

The SMS invitations are staggered by levels, with students in the graduating N-, O-, and A-Levels given priority. As vaccinations nationally may be further opened up to other age bands at the same time, for parents who give consent and students who are medically eligible, graduating students should sign up immediately and not wait for their younger siblings to secure appointments on preferred dates (avoiding key examination dates) and completing their vaccination before their national exams.
