Research online on how you can create a structure for the marble to run from the top to the bottom of the structure.
During your research, you can consider either of the following ways during the ideation process.

On day of Inter-Class STEAM Challenge:

Students are to bring their own materials for the challenge. You will be constructing the structure for the marble run on the day itself.
Students are to take a video (max. 1 min) of them successfully completing the challenge. Your video should be in mp4 format and in portrait mode. FTs will verify that the marble run can run between 15 to 20 seconds.
Group leaders of the group will upload the video and post a padlet on the class Grow and Glow Padlet Wall. The padlet must include a reflection on the following questions.
1. What difficulties did the group encounter and how did you overcome them?
2. What were the science or math behind your solutions?
3. What were the key learning points in doing the challenge?

Only groups with your video posted with the reflection will receive the certificate from Singapore Science Centre.

Awards for the Inter-Class STEAM Challenge

Each class will select the best group to represent the class in the Inter-Class STEAM Challenge.
The group representative from each class will compete to win the awards in the following categories:

For Sec 1, 2, 4, 5 STEAM Challenge (for SIL)

Interested students need to sign up in order to participate. Register individually or as a group (max. 4 students per group) through this form: STEAM Challenge Sign-Up Form.

Frequently Asked Questions

For the challenge, are there any specifications for the materials used for the structure?

Students should be using mainly recycled cardboards and cardboard struts to create the prototype. Students can use other items, such as glue or tape to stick parts such as the cardboard struts to the structure.

For the challenge, are there any specifications to the size used for the structure?

There is no specific size for the structure but students should be prudent in the use of materials. The structure should also be able to be moved easily from place to place especially for the groups representing the class as they will be required to bring their structure to the competition ground.

Will the school provide students with the material?

Students will have to source for your own materials to conduct the challenge. However, if you have difficulties sourcing the materials, you can look for Ms Zuhailah.

What format should the video be in and what should be included in the video?

Your video should be in an mp4 format and in portrait mode. It should be a maximum 1-min long and should show you and/or group members completing the challenge. If chosen, your video will be uploaded in our school's Instagram account.

What should be included in the padlet wall post?

The padlet wall post should include the video that you have completed the challenge. The post should also include your reflection about the challenge:

What difficulties did the group encounter and how did you overcome them?
What were the science or math behind your solutions?
What were the key learning points in doing the challenge?
