Physical Education, Art & Music
Physical Education
Mission
We aim to instill in our pupils a love for participation in physical, sports and outdoor education.
Physical Education plays a crucial role in the all-round development of pupils. Through a myriad of activities, pupils are provided with ample opportunities to engage themselves in authentic situations that will help them to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values towards embracing a love for an active and healthy lifestyle.
As part of their character development, pupils learn to work cooperatively and collaboratively with one another in the various learning areas in the PE curriculum, as well as in the programmes tailored for each level.
To further develop pupils’ talents and interests, the school has a Co-Curricular Activities programme that encourages all pupils to engage in learning that differs from the confines of a classroom.
All pupils from Primary 1 to 2 attend 2 hours of PE a week, while pupils from Primary 3 to 6 attend 2.5 hours of PE a week.
Throughout their primary school years, a progressive approach is adopted to guide the pupils through six Learning Areas (Sports & Games, Gymnastics, Athletics, Outdoor Education, Dance and Physical & Health Fitness). Through these Learning Areas, pupils develop a sense of self, through the acquisition of Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS), an understanding of games concepts, rhythm and movement, and an appreciation of the outdoors.
Primary 3 pupils also attend Swimsafer 2.0 to attain the Swimming learning outcomes in the PE curriculum.
Visual Art
Vision
Art beautifies our surroundings, captures memories, communicates ideas, imparts values and evokes emotions in our everyday life. Art exists in different forms from fine arts, design and to media.
Art nurtures our pupils’ holistic growth development. Through positive learning experiences in art lessons and program, pupils in Qifa Primary School develop visual literacy which enables them to observe and perceive the world with increased awareness and aesthetic sensitivity. Making art also encourages the development of creativity through idea generation and material exploration. The expression in Art allows students to engender a sense of self-worth. Appreciation of artworks further equips the students to make connections, better understand and engage with the world they live in.
Music
Music Education
Our music education believes that all children are capable of music making and have the innate ability to listen, sing, dance, play and express themselves musically. We aim to build a strong foundation in musicianship and allowing pupils to have a meaningful and authentic musical experience.
In line with the aims of the Music Syllabus, our curriculum is designed around six objectives which describe the music skills and knowledge pupils should acquire, as follows:
Sing and play melodic and rhythmic instruments individually and in groups
Create and improvise music
Describe and evaluate music through listening
Develop understanding of music elements/concepts
Discern and understand music from various cultures and of various genres
Understand the role of music in daily living
Pupils develop music appreciation and understanding through direct experiences in listening, creating and performing music. By understanding music in its sociocultural context, pupils better appreciate the role of music in their lives and develop meaningful involvement in music.
The diagram below summarises the main objectives of the music curriculum.
