Weeping Woman is an iconic image of unspeakable grief and pain, representing universal suffering. The fragmented features and the use of acid green and purple heighten the painting's emotional intensity. The model for the Weeping Woman was Picasso's mistress Dora Maar, a passionate, strong and intelligent woman.

Title of Artwork: My Expression

Size of Artwork: 30 cm x 42 cm

Artist Statement: My Cubist portrait focuses on detailed shapes and lines to capture different angles of the face in a unique way. The lines and shapes create a complex pattern that shows how a person can be weirdly seen. I wanted to combine these bright colours with detailed shapes to express the liveliness and joy in the portrait, making it both fun and interesting to look at.

Title of Artwork: Multiple Perspective

Size of Artwork: 45 cm x 50 cm

Artist Statement: This artwork is inspired by Cubism, where I deconstructed the human face to show it from different angles. I used colourful pipe cleaners for the hair to add texture and energy, contrasting with the flat shapes of the face.

The bright colours and fragmented features represent the complexity of human identity and the chaos of modern life. Through this piece, I wanted to challenge the viewer to see things in a new and different way, finding beauty in what is unusual and abstract.

Title of Artwork: Who's That?

Size of Artwork: 26 cm x 40 cm

Artist Statement: In my Cubism portrait, I used bright colors, lines, and shapes to create a unique and abstract view of a person. Inspired by the style of famous Cubist artists, I broke down the face into different geometric shapes, using bold lines and vivid colors to show the person from many angles at once.

Title of Artwork: Emotionless

Size of Artwork: 30 cm x 42 cm

Artist Statement: I  chose to draw this self-portrait because I wanted to relate to some of my classmates. Despite being extremely stressed, they still act like nothing happened and behave normally. The bright colours represent all the pent up emotions inside them.

Title of Artwork: Fragments of Identity

Size of Artwork: 30 cm x 42 cm

Artist Statement: In this artwork, I used oil pastels to explore Cubism by contrasting a black background with a colourful, broken-up face. The black background represents mystery, while the bright colours and fragmented features of the face show the complexity of human emotions.

Cubism lets me see things from different angles, and by using bold colours against the dark background, I wanted to create a strong contrast and depth. The deconstructed face is not just one viewpoint but reflects the many layers of our identity. My goal was to encourage viewers to look deeper and appreciate different perspectives.

Title of Artwork: Fake Smile

Size of Artwork: 30 cm x 42 cm

Artist Statement: I chose to draw this artwork based on some of my personal experiences. In my artwork, there are 2 faces, one of the faces is smiling while another face is not. I find this relatable to some students' personal lives, sometimes using a smile to cover up their true feelings. I decided to use bright colours to remind everyone that we shoud look on the bright side of life and stay positive; making our smiles real.
