There are times where your computer may be slower than usual. As such, it may be running some computationally intense tasks in the background. We will look at some common reasons.
Unlike your mobile phone, your computer usually has one or more fans to provide active cooling. Under normal operation, your CPU or GPU processing units will generate some heat. Your cooling fan will spin louder if the processing unit is within 80°C to 100°C. To minimise heat damage to the the chip, your processing chip will also draws less power, which also leads to slower performance.
Always check applications that are running in the background by looking at the taskbar. Some applications are more computationlly intense than others. E.g. Video editing, Software installation, Software update
Close any unnecessary application that you do not need to use.
Occasionally, some malicious software (malware) may be running without your awareness.
Video conferencing
(especially with virtual background)
Video Exporting
Software updates
If your taskbar has the Software Center running "Downloading and installing software", you can check on the progress by going to "Start" > type "Software Center" > Click on "Installation status".
Updates under the "Waiting to install" or "Installing" status, your computer may face poorer performance.
Note: You may need to restart your computer after the installation of updates is completed.
