Canberra Secondary School Overseas Service-Learning Programme
The Global Canberran Programme (GCP) is an overseas service-learning initiative designed to equip our students with 21st-century competencies and shape them into effective leaders of character. Through this programme, students are nurtured to become confident and competent global citizens, adept in navigating and appreciating diverse cultures. GCP prepares our students for meaningful engagement with local communities in Singapore and across the ASEAN region, fostering a deeper understanding of both global and regional issues.
Programme Objectives
GCP encourages students to critically engage with key topics such as community engagement, cultural diversity, sustainability, and active citizenship. By exploring these areas, the programme aims to strengthen students' commitment to and rootedness in Singapore while broadening their global perspectives.
Additionally, the programme fosters empathy and a deeper understanding of others, providing students with the foundation to become leaders who make positive contributions to their communities. GCP instils a strong sense of social responsibility, inspiring students to dedicate themselves to serving the greater public good.
The 2024 Journey: Siem Reap, Cambodia
In 2024, our students embarked on an unforgettable journey to Siem Reap, Cambodia. This experience marked a significant milestone in their service-learning journey, encouraging them to mature and become more thoughtful about the importance of service, both locally and globally.
Who Participates?
A group of 40 passionate students are selected from the Secondary 3 cohort to participate in the GCP. These students, driven by a shared commitment to service learning, are divided into five teams. Each team conducts lessons for beneficiaries in various subjects, including English, Mathematics & Science, Arts & Crafts, Music, and Physical Education.
