Yishun Innova Junior College, Centre of Excellence for Digital Literacies, is pleased to invite students from secondary schools to participate in the Better Internet Video Challenge 2025, a short film competition for secondary school participants.
Held in conjunction with the Media Literacy Council as part of the Digital for Life movement, the Better Internet Video Challenge 2025 is part of a nationwide effort to encourage students to advocate for a positive online space. It hopes to promote digital literacy and digital wellness through exploring the impact of technology on human interactions and the issues that arise from it. Furthermore, in line with the development of future-ready competencies for the 21st Century, it also seeks to encourage creativity and civic-awareness through content creation bearing meaningful moral, social or ethical messages.
For this challenge, students will form teams of 3-5 students, and apply their film-making skills to create a short film (any modality - Drama, Documentary, Animation etc) of not more than 5 minutes (including credit roll) based on the theme:
In line with Safer Internet Day 2025, each participating team is required to create a short film that entertains and educates viewers based on the theme Empowering a Safe and Resilient Online Community.
Participants may interpret the theme from a national, societal or individual perspective using some of the pointers below. Participants may wish to place some emphasis on equipping youth with the skills to:
Stay safe online;
Respond to and recover from encounters with online harms;
Support peers affected by online harms and;
Keep the online space safe for themselves and others.
