YIJC Chorale is a place where each and every individual is a valued member of a larger harmonious whole. It is a place where students are nurtured to develop their confidence, discipline and their ability to work in a team; where we emerge stronger mentally, emotionally and physically. All singers are encouraged to strive for excellence and to enjoy the journey along the way. Through the regular rhythm of our CCA sessions, students will grow their passion for music and the aesthetics through vocal masterclasses and acapella workshops.
We believe in the importance of holistic development. Besides performing in concerts like our biennial Arts Fusion Concert and participating in the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation, we also provide opportunities to contribute back to the community. We regularly volunteer at Thye Hua Kwan Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and Sree Narayana Mission Home, and perform song recitals for the patients and residents there.
A choir is a symphony of many voices and we hope that you will add yours to ours. We look forward to welcoming you into our Chorale family!
Personally, I think Chorale is filled with fun and enriching sessions. This includes interpreting and analysing the meaning behind songs that we are singing. Not only that, it is a great bonding session as you get to know your other chorale members too!

Having been in Choir for many years has definitely changed the way I perceive music! Chorale has continuously provided me with so many leadership opportunities and has also allowed me to build meaningful interactions with my peers. It has led me to appreciate the power of multiple voices as a team. And because of Chorale, I can effortlessly create harmonies by myself when given a tune! If you're looking for a CCA where the teachers are compassionate and the students are full of gusto and talent, then Chorale is the place to be! :)

Chorale, for me, has been more than a pastime or an obligation to fulfil. It has truly changed me as a person, and as a singer. Before joining Chorale, I had no experience of being in a choir, or even singing publicly, and I always lacked confidence in my voice. Coming to a community of singers who are so warm and welcoming is such a refreshing experience, and it has definitely built my confidence to sing and to believe in my voice. Moreover, the repertoire of techniques I learn from my seniors and peers helps to develop my voice, and makes me feel more at ease when going for the high notes. The smiles from my seniors and CCA teachers alike have always kept me motivated and happy when singing. Singing has always been my passion, but Chorale has become a stepping stone in helping me to improve and impact others with my voice. Everyone thinks that choirs are “boring” or “old-fashioned”, but I have found beauty and peace in the harmonies we create through the blend of the different sections and its members. I hope that it will be a light in your singing journey, just as it is for mine!

Initially, I didn't want to join choir because I already experienced being in Choir in secondary school and I wanted to try something new in JC. However, I am glad I eventually put Choir as my first choice. Choir in YI is really fun! It actually helps me to reduce stress. I always thought choir conductors are strict but our choir conductor is actually really nice and funny. Many have the misconception that due to COVID-19, the Choir does not have much opportunity to practise and perform. But our Chorale joined the Singapore Youth Festival last year and some of us have even performed for Jam and Hop during the JC1 Orientation this year. And we are going to perform in Arts Fusion this coming April! The choir group is quite small and this could actually be a good thing. It means you have more opportunities to stand out, more opportunities to become a leader and there is stronger bonding among members in Chorale. You don't have to be an extrovert or good at singing to join choir. You just need passion and an open mind. So, if you are looking for a CCA to help you release stress, a place to meet nice people and to show your passion for singing, come join Chorale. You won't regret it! :)
