8th Grade Social Studies: Development of Political Parties

Meet Aimee

she/her

I currently teach 8th grade Social Studies at Antelope Crossing Middle School in Sacramento, California.

I first learned about the Modern Classrooms Project on Twitter when I saw a tweet from Kareem. It struck a chord, and I investigated further what MCP was all about. After completing the free course, I knew that I had to try this model. In the summer of 2021, I began creating units for the fall.

After several months and a few Twitter posts of my own MCP classroom, I was encouraged by an MCP staff member to begin the Virtual Mentorship Program. I also applied and became a Distinguished Modern Classroom Educator

After several months of seeing the positive changes in my classroom with my students, I knew I had to work hard to get more teachers on board with this model. I became a mentor in March 2022 and have loved every minute of it.

One thing I love about MCP is learning from my mentees. They teach me so much! I especially love all the training and support I get from this organization, from the MCP staff, and fellow MCP implementers. The MCP community is something very special!

When not at school, you can find me traveling to new locations in the United States, especially if it includes watching my son perform in musicals! I enjoy puzzles, creating cards, and scrapbooking as well. And, of course, mentoring new MCP mentees!
