Faculty Development Workshop
August 4-6, 2025
A free 3-day workshop on Quantum Security and Machine Learning Faculty Development will be hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga during August 4-6, 2025. The workshop aims to help college faculty and K-12 STEM educators as well as those who are interested in quantum computing (e.g., PhD candidates, professionals from industry) expand their knowledge and experience in quantum computing, especially in the areas of quantum key distribution and quantum machine learning.
This 3-day workshop includes a series of interactive sessions on quantum basics, quantum key distribution, and quantum machine learning. Most of the workshop time will be devoted to hands-on practice by participants. Assistance to hands-on labs will be available.
The following types of participants are strongly encouraged to apply:
Faculty or instructors from 2-year or 4-year U.S. higher education institutions;
Graduate students, postdocs, or professionals who are interested in teaching cybersecurity courses in a 2-year or 4-year U.S. higher education institution;
K-12 STEM educators
The workshop will take place from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST on August 4th and 5th, and will conclude at 12:15 PM EST on August 6th.

The workshop is free to all accepted applicants but seats are limited. Click here to register.
To be eligible for the workshop stipend, applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents who were admitted to the U.S. for permanent residency prior to September 1st 2024. Please note that UTC students and employees are not eligible for stipends.
Selected college/K-12 participants who are eligible for stipend will be compensated with a stipend after completing all sessions of the workshop. The stipend amount is $1,500 if the travel distance is over 100 miles or $500 otherwise.

DIRECTIONS
The workshop will take place at two locations: Multi-Research Disciplinary Building (MDRB) and EMCS building. You can use explore.utc.edu to interactively check the direction, building, and parking information over the UTC campus. You can park your car at Lot 49 next to the MDRB on Day 1 and Day 3, and you can park at Lot 10/12/15 near the EMCS building on Day 2.
If you fly to Chattanooga, below are the directions from Chattanooga Airport to Downtown Chattanooga:
Take Vance Rd and follow signs to I-75 South
Take Exit 2 to merge onto I-24 West toward Chattanooga
Use the second lane from the right to take Exit 178 for US-27 North toward Downtown
Take Exit 1A for Main St
Use GPS to navigate to your hotel from there
If you drive to Chattanooga from Atlanta, below are the directions to MDRB:
Get onto I-75 North heading out of Atlanta
Take Exit 2 for I-24 West toward Chattanooga
Take Exit 180 A for Rossville Blvd toward TN-8 North
Turn right onto Central Ave and left onto EML King Blvd
If you drive to Chattanooga from Knoxville, below are the directions to MDRB:
Get on I-40
Take Exit 376 for I-140 East toward Maryville
Take the ramp onto I-40/I-75 South and follow the signs for Chattanooga
Take Exit 2 for I-24 West toward Chattanooga
Take Exit 180 A for Rossville Blvd toward TN-8 North
Turn right onto Central Ave and left onto EML King Blvd

Parking is available in two lots: one next to EMCS and another next to MDRB. Parking permits will be provided upon request. Participants must inform the organizer to receive one.
There are many hotels on or near Chestnut Street, between Riverfront Parkway and MLK Boulevard. These hotels are not within a 10-minute walk of UTC. The area where those hotels reside is generally safe and filled with dining and entertainment options. We recommend staying near the Riverfront, as it's a vibrant and walkable part of downtown Chattanooga. Notable nearby attractions include the Tennessee Aquarium, Hunter Museum of American Art, and Creative Discovery Museum.

There is one on-campus hotel, Mayor's Mansion Inn, which is located very close to the EMCS building, where part of our workshop will be held. It offers a unique historic atmosphere.
