We have found a few opportunities to share what we do and build relationships throughout the season.
A local library program offers STEM activities for elementary kids to attend once a month. Several students from our Robotics Program assist the library staff in developing STEM skills in the elementary students. The Robotics students bring the robots to excite the kids about learning new skills. We help them with their engineering projects and answer questions they might have. We want to leave an impact on them that could spark a love of engineering in the future.
We also went to some local businesses that helped inspire us for our robots and program, Interstates and Civco. We got to show them what we are doing with FTC. When we talked to them about it, we learned that one of them was a former student who had participated in FTC when he was in high school. They got to show us how they apply engineering to make things for people to help them and how profound and specialized engineering can be. We have even got a couple of mentors from local businesses who have helped us in all aspects of FTC this season.
