Before sending students to the library with a Chromebook issue, start here.
Try holding the power button down for 30 seconds. Once your Chromebook powers down, wait 10 seconds to restart it. This will fix a lot of issues.
Closing the lid of the Chromebook doesn't actually turn your Chromebook off, it just puts it to sleep. To power your Chromebook down, you have to tell it to shut down or hold the power button down.
Plug in the charger to make sure you have power.
Check to make sure the red charging light is on.
Hold down the power button for 20 seconds, then let go and click the power button again. Fully dead devices need more than a couple of minutes to charge enough to turn on.
Plug the charging cord into a different outlet.
Try a different charger.
If those things don't work, try holding down the Power Button and the Refresh Button at the same time.
Try another charger.
Try the other charging port, if your Chromebook has one.
Click on the time in the bottom right-hand of the screen - click on the wifi symbol. Next, click on the blue button on the right to turn off the wifi. Click the blue button again to turn the wifi back on.
Restart your device by clicking the power button, then select the click on the power icon.
Check the number of tabs. The more tabs, the slower the device will run. Close out a bunch of tabs.
Swipe three fingers down on the track pad (or press the button that looks like a rectangle with lines after it). If there are a bunch of windows open, close them.
Restart your device by clicking the power button, then select the click on the power icon - if the power icon does not show up, hold the power button until it shuts down (up to 15 seconds).
Check the password sheet and make sure the student is using the correct user name and password.
Make sure the student is logging in with their school account (and that it says @moberlyspartans.org at the end of the user name).
Click on the clock in the bottom right-hand corner.
Click on “Keyboard” and make sure it is set to “US.”
If it isn’t, change it and this will fix the problem.
If it is, try powering off and back on your computer.
Click “Forgot Password.”
On the next page, you will be presented with two options. Click the button that says “Proceed Anyway.”
You should now be able to log into your Chromebook with your current password.
Click on the clock in the lower right-hand corner.
Click on the gear icon to open settings.
Select “Device” on the left-hand side.
Select “Mouse and Touchpad.”
Under Touchpad toggle on “Enable Tap Dragging.”
Close settings.
Double tap and hold on to the item you want to drag.
Drag the item where you need it to go.
Don't.
Breaking your screen will get your Chromebook taken away and cost you $50 to fix it and get it back.
Throw it away. It doesn't keep your Chromebook from working.
Check everywhere you've been. Especially the last place you remember seeing it. It probably hasn't ended up in the library.
Press Ctrl+Shift+Refresh until it's the way it's supposed to be.
If the Chromebook still isn't working after you've tried everything, talk to Ms. Colbert about the best time to send the student to the library if she is unavailable.
