Greetings Caregivers,
I hope you all are enjoying your weekend. We really had some ups and downs this week but some weeks are like that. On the up side, we had an amazing visit from author Dad Abdo. He was so funny, full of energy and the kids loved him. Students were so inspired, I've seen several books being written during quiet time! On the down side, we missed another snowmotion trip due to having no school on Thursday. Let's keep our fingers crossed that next Thursday goes off without a hitch!

Battery Collection Drive by Mrs. Bernier’s Class!
Mrs. Bernier’s 3rd and 4th grade class at Underhill Central School is partnering with Call2Recycle to lead a Battery Collection Drive from January 20 to February 18! This is a wonderful opportunity to recycle old batteries, help protect the environment, and support our class in the running for a pizza party and a special prize!
Here’s how you can help:
Collect old batteries from your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
Drop them off at Underhill Central School in our designated collection bin.
Help us spread the word—every battery makes a difference!
Learning Highlights from the Week
This week during writing time we learned about the layers of the rainforest and took notes and wrote about sloths. Students have also chosen their animals for our research project and this will begin on Monday. The students are all very excited to get started learning about their animals.
Science Learning Targets:
Observing and describing the appearance and behaviors of animals.
Identify which appearances and behaviors are similar and different between parents and offspring.
First graders continue to work on missing addend problems and recording their thinking on paper. Here is a great game you can play at home to work on this skill.
Second graders continue to work on problems with an unknown start, and some have begun work on place value into the 100's. Here are several games you can play at home to help with fluency with adding and place value.
Jennifer Caron has begin her Care for Kids Unit this past week. Please click on the link to see what she will cover in this unit.
The work on nonfiction will continue through February break. We are reading a variety of nonfiction titles and learning about our world, animals, dinosaurs, etc. We also continue to focus on decoding skills such as VC-e, vowel team and bossy R patterns as well as endings such as s/es, ing and ed.
