Explore Time
We have a lot of play time built into the schedule in kindergarten. The children start their day choosing activities set up around the room. We always go out for a kindergarten morning recess and have an additional explore time later in the day. The children enjoy playing together while learning how to share and take turns.

Learning Highlights from the Week
Math
Math
We started our first math unit titled: Counting People, Sorting Buttons. Please read the family letters in your child’s folder describing the skills and concepts we will cover in this unit. This week the children practiced counting on the calendar and noticed important days in the month of September. We also explored with more math materials and talked about how some materials are similar and different. Next week we will work on sorting and counting objects.
Community
Community
We continued to read books about friendship and kindness. We shared things we hope to learn this year and started brainstorming rule to help us reach our goals. We also discussed following the group plan and showing whole body listening to help us learn.
Literacy
Literacy
We are having fun singing rhyming songs, noticing letters in words, and having book discussions during read alouds. We read books about friendship, following the group plan, and being unique. We also read a few ABC books and identified different letters and sounds.
The kindergarten students learned how to hold their pencils correctly. They practiced using a pencil grip with a bent thumb and pointer finger pointing to the tip. We practiced using scissors safely and carefully. We will continue to work on fine motor skills throughout the year.
Reminders
Please remember to have your child bring sneakers on PE days and return library books on Wednesdays.
