Bee the Change
Mike Kieman visited UCS on Wednesday. He founded a not for profit called "Bee the Change". He is working on bringing a pollinator habitat to every town and we are helping! The children learned about pollinators and how they are more than just bees but also birds and insects. Every kindergarten friend helped spread seeds to grow the UCS pollinator garden!

Learning Highlights from the Week
We answered more survey questions and looked at the total number in each group. We are learning about one another when we answer these questions. We practiced counting carefully and accurately and shared counting strategies to help us keep track. We counted across decades (29, 30 and 39, 40) while moving in different ways. The children also learned new games to help them recognize totals and record answers accurately. They are learning many routines to help them be independent during math workshop.
We learned what citizens do to help their community. The children practiced being good citizens by listening and helping one another. They helped clean up things that fell on the floor to help Mr. Eric when he vacuums at the end of the day. They also made self-portraits in art and in the classroom.
During Reading Workshop, the children continued to listen to many books and share predictions and ideas. They started collecting books to look at in their own reading bags. They played games with rhyming words, clapped syllables in words, and learned the correct sounds for some letters (Mm and Ss). They also practiced writing these letters accurately with a strong pencil grip.
During Writing Workshop, the children continued to build good habits and increase their stamina. This week they worked on:
drawing clear pictures using shapes and lines
trying their best to draw details in their pictures
learning how to stretch words to hear sounds so they can write
