PLAY!
Every morning we start our day with choices of things to play with at tables and on the floor. Kindergarten kids enjoy playing with peers and engage in conversations while learning to share and take turns. They learn how to be engineers by making observations and changing designs to improve their creations. They also play outside a few times a day and learn while playing. Play is so important in Kindergarten!

Learning Highlights from the Week
This week we worked on counting objects carefully and recording the total. We sorted objects by color, shape, size, and thickness. We identified an attribute that 2 objects had in common and created a train. The children had fun putting blocks next to each other if they had at least one common attribute. We also answered more survey questions and recorded the total for each group using tally marks. Next week students will get to do their own "Do you like" survey questions to ask their classmates.
This week we learned about beetles and how their bodies help protect them. We learned WOW facts like one kind of baby beetle can eat a frog! We read books about dragonflies and butterflies and learned about their life cycles. We will learn more about different kinds of bugs next week. We also have tadpole eggs in the classroom and are eager to meet some new friends!
During Reader’s Workshop, students practiced:
reading tricky power words (play, some, want, why)
practicing segmenting and blending words with short vowels, blends, and digraphs (th, sh, wh, ch)
reading words with long a and i
staying focused to read for longer periods of time
sharing ideas during read alouds
During Writing Workshop, the kindergarten students practiced:
forming letters accurately
writing about beetles, dragonflies and butterflies
using spaces between words
adding ending punctuation
writing more on a page
rereading their work
