Shelburne Farms!
We had such a great time at Shelburne Farms on Tuesday! We took a tractor ride to the barn and enjoyed seeing all the animals there. Many children got to milk a cow too! It was a great end of year field trip!
Important Dates
June 17th ~ Tentative Last Day of School
Learning Highlights from the Week
We practiced counting larger quantities. One day we counted all the chairs in the classroom. Another day we counted all of the people in both kindergarten classrooms. Last Friday our buddies helped their kindergarten friends trace their bodies on the basketball court so they could measure how long they were using snap cubes. They practiced counting all the cubes carefully to get an accurate total. We also played lots of games to review teen numbers.
Last week we learned about ants and how these social insects are super strong! This week we learned about spiders. We learned that counting the legs and body parts would help us figure out if something was a spider. We also learned how some make strong webs. Did you know there are over 45,000 different kinds of spiders all over the world? We also went in the outdoor classroom to look for spiders and write about what we found.
During Reader’s Workshop, students practiced:
reviewing power words
segmenting and blending words
reading magic e words (long a, i, and o)
staying focused to read for longer periods of time
sharing ideas during read alouds
During Writing Workshop, the kindergarten students practiced:
planning before writing
writing about Shelburne Farms and spiders
using spaces and ending punctuation
writing more than one sentence on a page
rereading to check their work
Reminders
Please be sure your child packs a water bottle each day.
