Integrated Arts
Mrs. Aucter helped us make different bugs on Monday. Everyone got to choose what kind of bug to make and figured out how many legs to attach. Many students made caterpillars, ladybugs, and spiders. It's always fun when Mrs. Aucter supports the learning in our classroom by planning fun projects!
Important Dates
May 21st ~ Art and Music Show 5:00 - 6:30
May 25th ~ No School (Memorial Day)
June 17th ~ Tentative Last Day of School
Learning Highlights from the Week
We sorted buttons by different rules like size, color, shape, and number of holes. We also sorted the class in different ways based on what kids were wearing (short vs long sleeves or shoes with laces or no laces). We picked our favorite lunch food and drew it on cards. Then we brainstormed different ways to group the information. We tried treats and not treats and more kids picked a food that wasn't a sweet treat! Later in the week students chose a "Do you like" survey question to ask friends. Ask your child about the different questions we answered and what we found out.
This week we learned about bees and how busy they work every day! We learned about all the jobs in the hive and how honey is made. One WOW fact we learned was that
honey bees talk/communicate by doing a waggle dance to tell each other where to find flowers. We also made bugs during integrated arts.
During Reader’s Workshop, students practiced:
reviewing power words
segmenting and blending words with short vowels, blends, digraphs and even suffixes (-ing, -s)
reading long vowel words with magic e
staying focused to read for longer periods of time
sharing ideas during read alouds
During Writing Workshop, the kindergarten students practiced:
forming letters accurately
writing about bees and other bugs
using spaces and ending punctuation
writing more than one sentence on a page
rereading to check work
