ENTOMOLOGISTS
The kindergartners are learning about entomology, the scientific study of bugs. They are being scientists when they study their bodies, life cycles, behaviors, and environments. This week they explored the outdoors to find different kinds of bugs. They identified them in 3 groups - insects, arachnids, and myriapods.

Learning Highlights from the Week
This week we reviewed teen numbers and practiced reading, writing, and ordering them. We also started a short measurement unit. The children learned how to compare weights of objects by using a pan balance. They observed the balance to see which object was heavier and which one was lighter. They also used cubes to see how much one object weighed on the balance.
This week we listened to many teaching books about insects. The children learned about how many legs and body parts they have and shared fun facts about different kinds. The class went outside to find different bugs and tried to identify them into one of the 3 groups (insects, myriapods, or arachnids). They looked closely at how many legs and body parts they had in order to sort them. Next week we will look closely at 2 different kind of insects.
