KINDERGARTEN LEADERS!
The class worked hard to prepare for All School Meeting today. They made posters reminding everyone to be respectful to people and things in our community. They rehearsed what to say a few times to be ready to lead the meeting today. They did a great job being leaders for the whole school! They received many compliments from students, families, and staff members!

Learning Highlights from the Week
We have been working on counting larger quantities by organizing objects. The children played the game "Fill the Treasure Chest". They practiced solving equations, collecting that number of pennies, and organizing them on ten frames. They worked on sharing the total amount of pennies by counting the groups of ten first and then the extra ones. Another day they counted a large amount of pennies by putting them in groups of ten. We had over 7 dollars in pennies! We also started playing games to practice writing teen numbers with the group of ten first.
This week we continued to learn about the rainforest. Students listened to different books about plants and animals. They started writing their own stories about animals and had fun being creative. We also enjoyed a craft time this morning and made different animals like a snake, jaguar, parrot, and sloth. Next week we will start a new unit on entomology.
During Reader’s Workshop, students are working on decoding words to read new books. They practiced:
touching words while reading to focus on decoding
noticing vowels, blends, and digraphs (th, sh, ch)
thinking about what happened in the story
sharing information in nonfiction books
rereading pages to build fluency
During Writing Workshop, the kindergarten students practiced:
writing complete sentences
writing about rainforest animals and plants
creating stories with rainforest animals
making posters for All School Meeting
rereading their work
