Happy Spring!
We enjoyed making crafts to celebrate the changing seasons. The children made spring pictures at the beginning of the week with cut paper and finger paints. They made colorful birds for the classroom door. They also made rainbows for the windows with buddies last week. Now we just need the sunshine to stay!

Learning Highlights from the Week
The children played games to work on becoming fluent with basic addition and subtraction facts. They played the game "Race to the Sun" and had to solve equations to figure out how many spaces to move. They used cubes, their fingers, and five frames to solve equations like 5-1 or 3+2. They also practiced reading, writing, and identifying numbers 11-20 so they did not transpose (say 51 for 15) or reverse digits when recording.
We have been learning about different ecosystems like oceans, deserts, and rainforests. The children have been hearing many books about plants and animals in these places and how they adapt to their environments. We have also been learning about force and motion through games and exploration. The children had fun playing mini golf in the classroom this week!
During Reading Workshop, the children practiced:
reading words with short vowels, blends, and digraphs
reading independently for longer periods of time
decoding and then rereading to be fluent
breaking words into individual sounds
reading books and sharing ideas
listening to books about ecosystems
During Writing Workshop, the kindergarten students practiced:
planning before writing
writing about desert animals and plants
labeling their work
forming letters carefully so words were easy to read
using power words to help write sentences
