Create a world beyond you. Become one of us.

Be the first of the inaugural MLIFE Fellows when we convene the Summer Leaders Summit event in Nairobi on August 21 & August 22, 2019. The Summit is focused on addressing the complex and myriad challenges facing our world and explore a variety of topics emphasizing the interaction of faith with the arts, education, and technology.

Be different.

We seek creative thinkers impatient to put their ideas into action and passionate about building new systems based on equitable outcomes for everyone.

Be progressive.

We seek leaders who are willing to put in the hard work needed to upend the status quo and explore the universe for the greater good of humankind.

Build a community.

We look out for those who do not want to achieve for themselves only. Their ambition must also be to help those around them to better the collective lives of humanity.

Meet the Speaker.

Mwangi Mukami is an ecumenical minister, a humanitarian, a feminist, a writer, a community organizer, a recovering addict, and the global lead of MLIFE Foundation.

From 2014-2018, Mwangi served as the first Kenyan-American Chairman of the Shelter Monitoring Committee (SMC) in San Francisco, California. As Chair, he championed for and led to an overhaul of the data collection and reporting system of shelters, and the creation of a Domestic Violence Policy to ensure that families and children experiencing domestic violence were not denied access to family shelters on the premise that a spouse or partner was violent.

Mwangi immigrated to the United States in 2009 after an illustrious public service career that spanned over a decade. As Chairman for Africa of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Africa Foundation (2006-2009), Mwangi promoted Dr. King’s non-violence message by training 16,000+ youths in peace and non-violence advocacy across eight cities in Africa. Mwangi instituted and served as the founding Youth President of the National Youth Parliament of Kenya (2004-2005), a Non-Governmental organization that organized 18-35-year-old youths together to learn about parliamentary systems and promote democracy. Before youth parliament, Mwangi had served as the first male elected Junior President of the Kenya Children’s Cabinet, an organization involved in developing the participation of children in decision-making processes.

Mwangi is an MPA graduate student at the University of California Berkeley. He attended San Francisco State University, graduating Magna cum laude with a Double Major BA in Political Science and International Relations. Mwangi also holds an Associate in Science, Social and Behavioral Sciences, with honors, and an Associate in Arts, Arts, and Humanities, with honors from the City College of San Francisco.

In 2013, Mwangi was conferred the President’s Service Award by 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. His other meritorious achievements include the Senate Recognition Resolution by the Georgia General Assembly, the Gandhi Peace Award, and the Morris Brown Medal of Peace amongst others.

Mukami is passionate about governance and candidly philanthropic. He is a mobilizer in the community, a mentor to many, and a leadership guru. A lover of books, Mwangi spends time reading, writing, and reviewing them. At home, he plays with his three-year-old son, Jonathan because his other kids; Sherilynn, Lincoln, and Cheyanne prefer to do other exciting things than play with their aging dad.
