RENOVATED MAHAGANAPATHI TEMPLE , PERNANKILA
Peranankila or Pernankila is a village near Hiryadka of Udupi taluk and Udupi district. The divine abode of Lord Mahalingeshwara [Lord Shiva] and Shri Mahaganapathi [Lord Ganesha] is situated in Pernankila which is about 20 kms southeast of Udupi. A pond adjacent to temple was rebuilt by Late P. Narasimha Acharya on 1-8-1950. The Ganesha deity is believed to remove obstacles from one's life. The Ganapati here is called Udbava Ganapati as it is believed to have come from earth by itself .
The Sri Mahalingeshwara Mahaganapathi Temple, at Pernankila, Udupi District is one such temple that is managed by the Sri Pejawara Adhokshaja Matha, Udupi which is situated about 10 kms away from Udupi and is located amidst lust green vegetation. Most respected and admired by all, the Senior Swamiji of the Matha, Padma Vibhushan His Holiness Sri Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji who is known for his concern towards the people of downtrodden and deprived, had dreamt for the all-round development of this holy centre .
Lord Mahaganapathi is the predominant deity of this temple. The Idol of Sri Mahaganapthi is swayamboo and is in the sidewall of a well. This temple has rich heritage and were functional under the Alupa dynasty. The sacred divine centre has devotees from all over India and abroad. The management of this temple is with Sri Pejawara Adhokshaja Matha, Udupi. As mentioned earlier, the temple is a very old one and was in dilapidated condition. The main temple structure was renovated recently at a cost of more than Rs, 10 crores with the contributions from the devotees. It is now attracting huge devotees spread all over the country.
