The history of the Kamandala Ganapati Temple is steeped in mythology and is deeply linked to the ancient legends of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Parvati, and the planet Shani (Saturn). According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati, seeking relief from the negative effects of Shani Dosh (an affliction caused by the planet Saturn), decided to perform penance (tapas) on Earth. She came to this village, Kesave, to perform her austerities and installed an idol of Lord Ganesha to help remove obstacles in her life.

Pleased by her devotion, Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, appeared before her and, from his sacred pot (kamandala), poured water which resulted in the creation of the Brahmi River at the feet of Lord Ganesha. This river, now called *Kamandala Teertha*, is considered a holy and purifying water source. Devotees believe that a dip in this sacred water can wash away sins and relieve them from the malefic effects of Shani Dosh.

ಕಮಂಡಲ ಗಣಪತಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಹಿಂಬಾಲನೆಯು ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಪುರಾಣಗಳಿಂದ ಬಂದಿದ್ದು, ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಕಥೆಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಮಹತ್ವವಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಕಾರವು ಪ್ರाचೀನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ Goddess ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ದೇವಿ ಶನಿದೋಷದಿಂದ ಪೀಡಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ, ಅವಳು ಶನಿ ದೋಷ ನಿವಾರಣೆಗೆ ಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಬಂದು ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡಲು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿದಳು. ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ದೇವಿ ತಪಸ್ಸು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಣೇಶನನ್ನು ಕೆಸವೆ ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾಪಿಸು ಹೊತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಳೆ.

ಇದಕ್ಕೂ ಮುಂದೆ, ಬ್ರಹ್ಮ ದೇವರು ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ದೇವಿಯ ತಪಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಸಂತೃಪ್ತವಾಗಿದಾಗ, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಕಮಂಡಲದಿಂದ ಹೋಲಿಸಿದ ನೀರನ್ನು ಸುರಿದು, ಅದರ ಮೂಲಕ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮೀ ನದಿಯನ್ನು ಉದ್ಭವಿಸಿದರು. ಈ ನದಿಗೆ "ಕಮಂಡಲ ತೀರ್ಥ" ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಹೊತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಇದು ಪವಿತ್ರ ತೀರ್ಥವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾನ ಮಾಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಶನಿ ದೋಷ ನಿವಾರಣೆಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಭಕ್ತರು ಪೋಷಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
