Porkodi Sri Somanatheshwara Temple of Pejavar Magane, situated in the village of Kenjar, near Mangalore is a sacred center. The temple stands as a symbol of purity, devotion and cultural richness. Sri Somanatheshwara Temple is a stunning example of ancient temple architecture. The temple is believed to bring peace, courage and blessings to the devotess. Some people claim that their problems were resolved after offering prayers here. Daily rituals such as pujas, abhishekas spiritually uplift the devotees.
The temple has, reportedly a history of 2,000 years. Sri. Ganapathi was installed during 90’s and again on 8.4.01 by constructing granite stony small gudis, Sri Ganapathi and Sri. Parvathi Devi was installed inside the temple i.e. South West and North West corner of the Pauli, to have greater power to the temple and to fulfill the needs of devotees. Traces of the earlier temple was found at Devara Padpu. Various parts of a temple chariot and also pieces of roofing were dug up during the recent Desilting of a tank there, presumably used earlier by the temple. It is also said that the tank used to serve as a means of irrigation for the paddy fields of the village. The temple also has become a cultural centre for the people of the village with an ideal stage added to the temple precincts during the recent years. Necessities of outside communication have been met with a telephone connection to the temple and the Post office located just side of the temple. The road running front leads to Jokatte and then to Panambur. Addition of electrification to the temple has helped to enhance the background with the pleasing illumination during the nights, special occasions.
Throughout the year, several festivals and rituals are celebrated at this temple. Maha Shivaratri, special prayers during Kartika month, and Monday rituals in the month of Shravan are celebrated with grandeur. During these events, thousands of devotees visit the temple to offer prayers. Occasionally, events like Rathotsava (chariot festival) are also held. Annual Utsava celebrations are being held for 4 days starting from Meena Masa full moon day (March–April) by actual participation of the villagers in a grand manner. In this Utsava the face to face meeting of the god – Somanatheshwara and Daiva Kodamanithaya and two Daivas namely Kodamanithaya and Kotedababbbu are the speciality.
The temple is believed to bring peace, courage, and blessings to the devotees. Some people claim that their problems were resolved after offering prayers here. Daily rituals such as pujas, abhishekas , and decoration of the deity spiritually uplift the devotees. The village of Porkodi is blessed with serene natural beauty. Green landscapes, peaceful surroundings, and water bodies enhance the appeal of the temple premises. Devotees visit not only during festivals but also daily for personal worship, meditation, and chanting.
